Jon Fitch: Fighters Don’t Take Their Game Plans Far Enough

Jon Fitch, on “Beatdown,” discussing game plans in MMA:

“I think you need a primary game plan and then multiple secondary game plans. You need to have a game plan for every situation. I think that’s the problem with a lot of guys. They don’t see the big picture. What happens if this happens? What happens if this guy’s better at this than I thought? They don’t take the game plan far enough. They don’t look for the backups, the escape routes. And more importantly, the game plan itself is minor to your individual game. What is your game? How do you excel as a fighter? What are the things you do well in order to control and defeat your opponents? I think that’s a major focus that a lot of guys don’t pay attention to.”
