‘Ninja’ Reveals UFC 129 Opponent on Twitter

UFC welterweight prospect Daniel “Ninja” Roberts has announced that he will next enter the Octagon against Claude Patrick at UFC 129, scheduled to take place on April 30 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto. Roberts on Friday revealed the matchup via Twitter. The bout has not yet been confirmed by the UFC.

The news comes just one week after the Cesar Gracie-trained Roberts submitted fellow prospect Greg Soto with a first-round kimura at UFC 125. The 30-year-old has now won three straight contests -- including two by way of submission -- since being knocked out by John Howard in his UFC debut in March. That defeat was the first of Roberts’ young career; his ledger currently stands at 12-1.

Patrick, 30, will look to halt Roberts’ momentum with a hometown stand. “The Prince” hails from Toronto and has fought all but two of his 14 professional bouts on Canadian soil. Patrick made his UFC debut in June in Vancouver, where he used his go-to guillotine choke to submit Ricardo Funch. In October, the once-beaten International Fight League veteran took a unanimous decision over “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 9 winner James Wilks at UFC 120.

UFC 129 marks the promotion’s first trip to Toronto, where MMA was legalized in August. The event will be headlined by a five-round welterweight title bout between champion Georges St. Pierre and former Strikeforce titleholder Jake Shields.
