Longtime lightweight veteran Donald Cerrone bumped himself up to welterweight to test himself against a naturally larger man and he had few problems inside the Octagon at UFC Fight Night “MacDonald vs. Thompson.”

Cerrone scored two terrific takedowns in the opening round and then poured on his brilliant striking in rounds two and three. Cote was dropped three different times by left hooks but “The Predator” kept getting back to his feet to try and bang with “Cowboy.” In the end, a vicious left hook-right hook combo floored the Canadian for good, allowing Cerrone to pound away on his hapless victim until referee Yves Lavigne had to rescue Cote at the 2:35 mark of the final stanza.
