WEC Veteran Aiding in 10-Year-Old’s Fight with Kidney Disorder

When World Extreme Cagefighting veteran Savant Young enters the cage at Tachi Palace Fights 11 “Redemption” on Friday at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino in Lemoore, Calif., he will have more than opponent Robert Washington on his mind. Tyler Ransom will occupy a place, too.

Ransom is a 10-year-old who suffers from Nephrotic Syndrome, a disorder in which the filtering systems in his kidneys malfunction. As a result, protein leaks into his urine, causing fluid to accumulate in his body and resulting in swelling around his eyes, stomach and legs. Prolonged leakage can lead to kidney failure.

Young (Pictured, File Photo) -- who owns notable victories over “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 3 winner Kendall Grove, Bellator Fighting Championships Season 3 bantamweight tournament finalist Ed West and former Shooto champion “Lion” Takeshi Inoue -- will make a donation on Ransom’s behalf to the NephCure Foundation. A non-profit organization, the NephCure Foundation is “committed exclusively to support research seeking the cause of the potentially debilitating kidney diseases, Nephrotic Syndrome and Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis, improve treatment and find a cure.”
