9. Chael Sonnen Mortgage Fraud

Sonnen has not been known as the most honest person over the years: He tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs and also falsely denied accusing disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong of giving himself cancer. Besides those issues, Sonnen was also at the epicenter of a fairly large mortgage fraud scheme a few years ago.

A licensed realtor at the time, Sonnen had a title company pay for $65,000 in plumbing repairs on a house owned by his mother, even though he knew the repairs would not be made. The Milwaukie, Oregon, native was arrested, pleaded guilty to money laundering in connection with mortgage fraud, paid a $10,000 fine, had his realtor’s license revoked and spent two years on probation. At the time, Sonnen was running for a seat in the Oregon House of Representatives. He backed out of the race and freely joked about “stealing from the rich to give to himself.”
