9. The ‘Money’ Feud

About a month or so before Rousey disposed of Bethe Correia and moments after she had won a pair of ESPY Awards, she walked onto the red carpet to be interviewed. There, she called out pound-for-pound boxing king Floyd Mayweather Jr. Rousey had edged Mayweather for “Best Fighter” honors and refused to bite her tongue when talked turned to the man called “Money.” He had been jailed on domestic violence charges in 2012 and claimed to have no idea who the UFC women’s bantamweight champion was.

“I wonder how Floyd feels being beat by a woman for once,” Rousey said. “I’d like to see him pretend to not know who I am now.”

Naturally, her comments ignited a firestorm of media savagery, with reporters stopping at nothing in hopes of landing an even better soundbite from Mayweather and vice versa. The media feud between the two went on at a torrid pace for weeks. Even though the banter between Rousey and Mayweather has quieted, there remains an underlying feeling that we have not yet heard the last from either of them.
