By The Numbers: Bibiano Fernandes vs. John Lineker



While he may not be nearing Bigfoot territory just yet, sightings of One Championship bantamweight titleholder Bibiano Fernandes have become increasingly rare.

The AMC Pankration product will defend his title for the first time in more than two years when he confronts John Lineker in the One Championship “Bad Blood” main event on Friday at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore. Fernandes has rattled off 16 wins across his past 17 outings, avenging his only defeat in that span. He last competed at One Championship “Century: Part 2” on Oct. 13, 2019, when he completed a rare quadrilogy with a second-round rear-naked choke submission of Kevin Belingon. Lineker, meanwhile, enters the cage on the strength of a three-fight winning streak. The former Jungle Fight champion last fought at One on TNT 3, where he punched out Troy Worthen in the first round of their April 7 pairing.

As Fernandes and Lineker approach their hotly anticipated showdown, a look at some of the numbers that have accompanied them to this point:

41: Years of age for Fernandes, who was born on March 30, 1980 in Manaus, Brazil.

9: Fernandes victories by submission, accounting for 38% of his career total (24). His methods of choice: five rear-naked chokes, two triangle chokes, one armbar and one kimura. Fernandes owns two other victories by knockout or technical knockout, 12 more by decision and another by disqualification.

2,896: Days spent by Fernandes as undisputed One Championship bantamweight titleholder. His first run covered a remarkable five years and 22 days—from Oct. 18, 2013 to Nov. 9, 2018—and included seven successful title defenses. Fernandes kicked off his current reign atop the 145-pound weight class on March 31, 2019, when he was awarded a disqualification following Belingon’s use of illegal elbows in the second round of their One Championship “A New Era” co-feature.

4: Sub-minute finishes on the Fernandes resume. He submitted Luis Figueroa with a rear-naked choke in 31 seconds at Jungle Fight 3 on Oct. 23, 2004, dispatched Len Tam with a triangle choke in 58 seconds under the Raw Combat banner on Oct. 25, 2008, took care of Joe Warren with an armbar in 42 seconds at Dream 11 on Oct. 6, 2009 and put Takafumi Otsuka to sleep with a rear-naked choke in 41 seconds at Dream 17 on Sept. 24, 2011.

57: Professional rounds completed by Fernandes since he made his debut as a mixed martial artist in 2004. He has gone the distance on 15 different occasions and carries a 12-3 record in those bouts.

.691: Cumulative winning percentage between the four men—Belingon, Hiroyuki Takaya, Norifumi Yamamoto and Urijah Faber—who have beaten Fernandes. They boast a combined record of 96-41-2.

31: Years of age for Lineker, who was born in Paranagua, Brazil, on June 12, 1990.

16: Lineker wins by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 47% of his career total (34). His list of victims includes Brian Kelleher, Michael McDonald, Alptekin Ozkilic, Phil Harris, Jose Maria Tome and Azamat Gashimov. Lineker holds four other wins by submission, 13 more by decision and another by disqualification.

78: Seconds needed for Lineker to punch out Luiz Carlos Alves Neves at Jungle Fight 28 on May 21, 2011. Having occurred more than a decade ago, it remains the fastest finish of his 43-fight career.

14: Consecutive calendar years in which Lineker has fought as a mixed martial artist. He went 2-0 in 2008, 4-5 in 2009, 6-0 in 2010, 7-0 in 2011, 1-1 in 2012, 3-0 in 2013, 1-1 in 2014, 2-0 in 2015, 3-1 in 2016, 1-0 in 2017, 1-0 in 2018, 1-1 in 2019, 1-0 in 2020 and 1-0 in 2021.

150: Combined victories between the nine men—Cory Sandhagen, T.J. Dillashaw, Ali Bagautinov, Louis Gaudinot, Rafael Silva, Andre Luis de Souza, Erick da Silva, Felipe Arantes and Nelson Velasques—who have defeated Lineker. They sport a .679 (150-70-1) cumulative winning percentage.
