Don’t look now, but Junior dos Santos is a heavyweight title contender once again.

“Cigano” earned his third consecutive victory in the UFC Wichita headliner, stopping Derrick Lewis via technical knockout 1:58 into the second round at the Intrust Bank Arena on Saturday night. Dos Santos had Lewis reeling courtesy of a kick to the body in round one, and a right hand and follow-up punches clinched his victory in the second frame. The winning streak marks a welcome resurgence for dos Santos, who went 3-3 over a six-bout stretch from 2012 to 2017 and looked as if his best days were far behind him.

10: KO/TKO finishes for dos Santos, tying him with Cain Velasquez and Lewis for most in UFC heavyweight history.

15: Career UFC triumphs for dos Santos, the third-most in the history of the heavyweight division. Andrei Arlovski and Frank Mir are tied for first with 16 victories apiece.

3: Consecutive victories for dos Santos, tying him with Ruslan Magomedov for the third-longest active winning streak in the heavyweight division. Daniel Cormier and Justin Willis are tied for first with four straight wins. All three wins during “Cigano’s” streak have come in main event bouts.

14: Knockdowns in UFC competition for dos Santos, tying him with Chuck Liddell, Lyoto Machida and Mauricio Rua for fourth-most in the history of the Las Vegas-based promotion.

22: Significant strikes by which dos Santos (29) outlanded Lewis (7) in the abbreviated contest. Dos Santos landed 15 significant strikes to the head, seven to the body and seven to the legs.

7: Consecutive victories for Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos, tying him with Santiago Ponzinibbio for the second-longest active winning streak in the UFC’s welterweight division behind only reigning champion Kamaru Usman (10). Dos Santos submitted Curtis Millender with a rear-naked choke 2:35 into the opening stanza of their co-main event matchup.

0: Significant strikes landed by Millender, who had landed a combined 174 significant strikes in winning his first three Octagon appearances.

63: Combined significant strikes landed by Niko Price (32) and Tim Means (31) in their short-lived welterweight bout. Price finished the contest via knockout with 10 seconds remaining in the opening frame.

14: Unofficial media scorecards, of the 16 tracked by MMADecisions.com, that awarded the heavyweight fight between Blagoy Ivanov and Ben Rothwell to Rothwell. The cageside judges saw things differently, however, as Derek Cleary, Sal D’Amato and Kevin Champion all submitted 29-28 scorecards in favor of Ivanov.

72: Significant strikes landed by Ivanov. By comparison, Rothwell landed 70. Ivanov outlanded his foe 19 to 9 in round one and 29 to 28 in round two, while Rothwell had a 33-to-24 edge in the final stanza.

12: Career UFC defeats for Tim Boetsch following a decision loss to Omari Akhmedov in a featured middleweight encounter. That figure is the second-most in promotion history behind only longtime lightweight/featherweight veteran Jeremy Stephens (15).

4-0: Record for Anthony Rocco Martin since moving up to welterweight from 155 pounds. The American Top Team representative outpointed Sergio Moraes in a main card 170-pound bout on Saturday night.

48: Significant strikes by which Yana Kunitskaya (98) outlaned Marion Reneau (50) in their preliminary bantamweight scrap. That included a 29-to-13 edge in round one and a 40-to-18 advantage in round two as the Russian banked the first two rounds on the scorecards en route to a unanimous decision triumph.

36: Significant leg strikes landed by Kunitskaya. By comparison, Reneau landed just six.

6: Takedowns landed, in 11 attempts, by Grant Dawson in a unanimous decision triumph over Julian Erosa in a preliminary featherweight tilt. That was the most of anyone on Saturday’s card. Dawson landed four of those takedowns in the opening stanza, adding one apiece in rounds two and three.
