11: Submission triumphs in UFC competition for Maia, the
second-most in promotion history behind only Charles
Oliveira (13). The 41-year-old Brazilian moved past Royce Gracie
and into sole possession of second place with his tapout win over
Askren on Saturday.
9: Career rear-naked choke wins in the UFC for Maia. That’s the most of any fighter in the combined history of the UFC/WEC/Pride/Strikeforce promotions. Kenny Florian is No. 2 with seven rear-naked choke victories.
22: UFC triumphs overall for Maia, the second-most in the history of the Las Vegas-based organization behind only Donald Cerrone (23).
4: Takedowns landed in seven attempts for Askren, the most of any Maia opponent since Chris Weidman took the Brazilian down four times at UFC on Fox 2 in Jan. 2012.
102: Total strikes for Askren. Maia, meanwhile, landed 84. Maia held a 69-to-63 advantage in significant strikes.
31: Career UFC appearances for Maia. That is the fourth-most in promotion history behind only Cerrone (33), Jim Miller (33) and Jeremy Stephens (32).
37: Significant strikes landed by Steven Ray against Michael Johnson in the third round of their lightweight co-main event. Johnson, meanwhile, landed just 14 significant strikes in the period as Ray put his stamp on a majority decision victory.
28: Significant ground strikes landed in round three by Ray, who imposed his will from top position down the stretch. Ray landed all of his ground strikes in the final round while Johnson didn’t land any significant ground strikes in the fight.
64: Significant strikes landed by Johnson in the first two frames. By comparison, Ray landed 48 in the fight’s initial 10 minutes.
5: Submission victories in UFC competition for Beneil Dariush, who tapped out Frank Camacho 2:02 into the opening frame of their featured lightweight tilt. That makes three consecutive victories for Dariush.
4:46: Time of Ciryl Gane’s third-round heel hook of Don’Tale Mayes, making it the latest submission in a heavyweight fight in UFC history. The previous latest submission was held by Mirko Filipovic, who tapped Pat Barry with a rear-naked choke at the 4:30 mark of round three back at UFC 115.
17: Number of heel hook submissions in UFC history. There have been no more than two such submissions in any given year dating back to 2001.
62: Significant strikes by which Gane outlanded Mayes. That figure includes a 30-to-5 advantage to the body and a 22-to-2 edge in the clinch.
70: Significant strikes landed by Randa Markos in rounds two and three of a split-decision victory over Ashley Yoder at strawweight. After outlanding Markos by an 11-to-8 count in the first stanza, Yoder landed 33 significant strikes over the final 10 minutes.
0: Takedowns landed in 11 attempts for Alex White in a unanimous decision loss to Rafael Fiziev at lightweight. Fiziev, meanwhile, landed his only takedown attempt and outlanded his foe 66 to 55 in significant strikes.
12: First-round KO/TKO finishes in the professional career of Sergei Pavlovich, who earned his second consecutive Octagon triumph with a stoppage of Maurice Greene at the 2:11 mark of the opening stanza in their heavyweight encounter.
99: Significant strikes landed by Loma Lookboonmee in her Octagon debut, a split-decision triumph over Alexandra Albu at strawweight. By comparison, Albu landed 65.
.650: Significant striking accuracy for Lookboonmee, who landed 99 of 151 attempts. Albu landed 65 of 157 significant strikes, a 41 percent success rate.
