By the Numbers: UFC on ESPN 55

Alex Perez just reminded the rest of the Ultimate Fighting Championship flyweight division that he’s still a dangerous opponent.

After accepting a fight against Matheus Nicolau on short notice, Perez delivered a second-round knockout of his Brazilian foe in the UFC on ESPN 55 main event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday night. As a result, Perez halted a three-bout skid that came at the hands of Deiveson Figueiredo, Alexandre Pantoja and Muhammad Mokaev. Nicolau, meanwhile, has dropped back-to-back outings for the first time in his professional career.

4: Career knockdowns for Perez, who folded Nicolau with a right hook in the second stanza at the 2:16 mark. That ties him with Brandon Moreno and Alexandre Pantoja for the 10th most knockdowns in the history of the flyweight division.

28: Significant strikes landed by Perez. Nicolau, meanwhile, landed 22 in the abbreviated affair. Perez outlanded his foe 13 to 10 in Round 1 and 15 to 12 in Round 2.

5: Takedowns landed in six attempts by Karine Silva in a three-round verdict over Ariane Lipski at flyweight. That’s more than Silva’s first three UFC appearances combined. Silva also enjoyed 7:32 total control time in victory. Lipski did not attempt a takedown and logged 2:06 total control time.

42: Significant strikes landed by Lipski. By comparison, Silva landed 27. Lipski also held an 89-to-53 edge in total strikes landed.

4: Consecutive victories for Silva, the fourth-longest active winning streak in the women’s flyweight division behind Manon Fiorot (seven), Maycee Barber (six) and Natalia Silva (five).

7: First-round KO/TKO victories in seven professional victories for Jhonata Diniz, who earned his first UFC triumph by putting away Austen Lane inside of a round in their featured heavyweight clash.

4:10: Total control time for Lane in Round 1, when he landed a takedown and held a 35-to-5 advantage in total strikes landed. Lane failed on all three of his takedown attempts in Round 2.

5: Reversals executed by David Onama in a unanimous decision triumph against Jonathan Pearce. That effort on the canvas helped Onama negate the five takedowns landed by his opponent in the featherweight affair. Onama also stuffed nine takedown attempts from Pearce.

10: Finishes among 10 professional victories for Uros Medic, who dispatched Tim Means 2:09 into the opening stanza of their welterweight bout. Medic owns four UFC triumps via KO or TKO.

25: Welterweight appearances for Means, the fourth most in the history of the division. “The Dirty Bird” has 28 UFC bouts overall on his ledger.

109: Significant strikes landed by Victor Henry in a third-round technical knockout victory against Rani Yahya at bantamweight. That’s the third time in Henry’s five-bout UFC tenure that he has exceeded 100 significant strikes. Yahya, meanwhile, landed 54 significant strikes in defeat.

10: Unofficial media scorecards, of the 10 tracked by MMADecisions.com that scored the lightweight clash between Michal Figlak and Austin Hubbard in favor of Figlak. Judges Michael Bell, Eric Colon and Bryan Miner saw it differently, as all three submitted 29-28 tallies for Hubbard.

92: Significant strikes landed by Figlak. By comparison, Hubbard landed 88. Figlak outlanded his foe 26 to 19 in Round 1 and 36 to 32 in Round 3, while Hubbard held a 37-to-30 edge in Round 2. Hubbard landed the fight’s only three takedowns but logged just 48 seconds of control time compared to 1:37 for Figlak.

49: Significant strikes by which Ketlen Souza outlanded Marnic Mann in a unanimous decision triumph at strawweight. The former Invicta FC champ connected on 68% of her significant strikes, while Mann connected at just a 40% clip. Mann has been outlanded by a combined 127 significant strikes across two UFC appearances.

2: Occasions among 27 professional outings that Na Liang has seen a third round. The Chinese flyweight, who has finished the majority of her fights inside of a round, suffered a third-round submission defeat to Ivana Petrovic on Saturday. Liang also went the distance in a decision loss to Liliya Shakirova on July 22, 2017.

0-4: UFC record for Liang, making her one of four women in promotion history to go winless in four appearances.

121: Significant strikes landed by Gabriel Benitez in a split-decision loss to Maheshate Hayisaer at lightweight. By comparison, Hayisaer landed 97 significant strikes. Benitez outlanded his foe 81 to 67 to the head and 27 to 4 to the legs. Hayisaer, meanwhile, held a 26-to-13 edge in significant body strikes.
