Sherdog Prospect Watch: Tamires Vidal

The Ultimate Fighting Championship women’s 135-pound division is always looking for fresh prospects, and Tamires Vidal looks to be the perfect fit. Fighting out of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, Vidal will introduce herself to the UFC audience as she takes on Ramona Pascual in the card opener at UFC Fight Night 214. At 24 years of age, Vidal has already recorded six victories and a sole defeat. The Team Brothers representative has defeated three opponents by decision and forced two to tap. Her quickest win arrived thanks to a kimura maneuver over Veronica Santos at Arena Global 1 in June 2019. Vidal will step into the Octagon for the first time riding a five-fight winning streak, including some quality triumphs over current UFC 145-pounder Ailin Perez and Professional Fighters League’s Martina Jindrova.

Legacy Fighting Alliance alum Vidal made her mixed martial arts debut in a 145-pound clash on Aug. 18, 2018, when she took home a narrow split decision over Ana Costa Monteiro. Her nickname is “Tratora,” which translates to “Tractor” in English, and it’s easy to understand how she earned it. Vidal has been gifted with some natural strength that allows her to dictate the pace of her fights and comfortably take her opponents on the canvas. Her background includes some muay thai training, so she’s comfortable exchanging on the feet even with pure strikers as shown in her clash with Queila Pereira Americo Braga.

In her sophomore cage appearance, Vidal lost to current UFC fighter Karol Rosa due to a third-round arm-triangle choke. “Tratora” bounced back with a submission win of her own over Santos, the first triumph in her current win streak. One of Vidal’s most formidable challenges was her clash with Jindrova, but the Brazilian ultimately overcame her opponent via decision. Before making her United States debut, Vidal picked up the Samurai Fight House championship after taking two knees to the head while grounded, resulting in the disqualification of her opponent, Perez, at Samurai Fight House 2. In her most recent cage appearance, Vidal submitted Braga thanks to a slick heel hook that stopped the action at the 3:36 mark of Round 2 at LFA 126.
