Chico Camus Lands on Post-UFC Feet, Dominates Matt Brown in RFA 36 Headliner

Roufusport’s Chico Camus snapped a two-fight losing streak in his Resurrection Fighting Alliance debut, as he took a unanimous decision from Matt Brown in the RFA 36 main event on Friday at the Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake, Minnesota. Scores were 30-27 on all three judges’ cards.

Camus, who made eight appearances under the Ultimate Fighting Championship banner, proved to be too much for Brown in their flyweight showdown. Brown dropped to 125 pounds for the first time in his career and could not hang with the quicker, more explosive Milwaukee native.

The 31-year-old Camus entered the cage on the heels of back-to-back losses to Kyoji Horiguchi and Henry Cejudo in the UFC.

The original headliner -- a featherweight title fight pairing champion Raoni Barcelos with Landon Vannata -- was scrapped after Vannata failed to make the 145-pound limit. He had never before attempted to compete as a featherweight. His exit left RFA officials scrambling, and they opted to go with Camus-Brown as the featured attraction.

Meanwhile, rising featherweight prospect Melvin Blumer submitted Matthew Murphy with a slick rear-naked choke in the second round of their co-main event. Once Blumer secured his arm around Murphy’s neck, the fight was finished. The tapout brought it to an end at 1:23 of round two.

In other action, Reese Hernandez toppled Kassius Holdorf via unanimous decision, earning 29-28 scores across the board; featherweight Dan Moret was too much for Josh Wick to handle, as he won a lopsided three-round unanimous decision with 30-27 marks from all three judges; Logan Storley took out Lemetra Griffin with a volley of punches just 33 seconds into their welterweight battle; and lightweight Bobby Lee edged Alex Wiggs via majority decision: Scores were 29-27, 29-27 and 28-28.
