Jamie Varner was defeated in the first-round of his UFC on Fox 13 fight with Drew Dober, tapping out via rear-naked choke. After the bout, Varner announced his retirement from mixed martial arts.

The loss was Varner’s fourth consecutive defeat inside the Octagon, after dropping bouts in succession to Gleison Tibau, Abel Trujillo and James Krause.

I had planned this a long time ago, I knew this was going to be my last fight. I just can’t keep up with these young kids anymore, I’m battling injuries all the time. My hats off to Drew [Dober], he came into hostile territory, brought a good fight to me,” Varner told Joe Rogan after the fight. “It’s been an absolute dream, guys. I’ve been fighting here a long time, it’s been an absolute dream. I own a gym and I’ve done things I never thought I would do. Thank you.”

Varner, a former World Extreme Cagefighting champion, fought 34-times as a professional, competing against the best 155 pounds has to offer. “C-4” was involved in memorable “Fight of the Night” scraps against Trujillo at UFC 169, Joe Lauzon at UFC on Fox 4 and Hermes Franca at UFC 62.
