Strikeforce Challengers 15 Live Play-by-Play

Sherdog.com will report from the Stockton Arena in Stockton, Calif., at approximately 8:30 p.m. ET with play-by-play and live results of Strikeforce Challengers 15, which is headlined by a lightweight showdown between Justin Wilcox and Rodrigo Damm.

Adam Antolin vs. Ronald Carillo
Round 1
They come out slow. They fighters exchange and Antolin lands a right hand that drops Carillo. He pops right up. They clinch and Carilllo gets standing-back control. He sinks in his hooks and works for the rear-naked choke.

He torques the choke and pulls his prey backwards to the mat where he forces Antolin to tap out at 1:48 of round one.



Tristan Arenal vs. Tom Peterson
Round 1
Arenal lands a solid left hand that makes Peterson stagger. Another flurry lands flush and Peterson drops to the floor. Arenal follows him down, flurrying with punches. Arenal transitions to side control, then mount. He grabs an armbar and Peterson is forced to tap at 1:58 of the opening period.

Robert Escalante vs. Raul Sandoval
Round 1
Sandoval plants Escalante with a right, follows him down and locks on a guillotine. The Stockton native escapes and rolls into full mount. Sandoval reverses. The Team Alpha Male fighter again tries the guillotine. Escalante escapes. They stand and clinch against the cage. They go down and Sandoval gets Escalante's back. The hometown fighter stands, but Sandoval still has his back.

Escalante spins and gets taken down. He locks on an armbar that is deep and nasty, forcing Sandoval to submit verbally at 4:10 of the first.

Anthony Avila vs. Rafael Rios
Round 1
Avila comes out and lands a hard left hand. He's looking for the big shot as Rios dances around, darting in and out. Avila throws a low kick and eats a right counter. They hit the ground and Rios goes for an arm. Avila stands; Rios follows. Avila gets a single leg against the cage and the Stockton native tries a guillotine on the way down. The fighters break and stand. Rios eats a right. Avila gets a body lock and drags him down, but Rios pops right back up. Avila trips him back down and ends the round looking for an arm on top. 10-9 Avila.

Round 2
Rios lands a low kick. Avila throws an overhand right that grazes his opponent's temple. Both fighters have slowed, but don't look gassed. Avila trips him down, Rios pops up. Avila lands a good head kick that is partially blocked. Avila is bleeding over his right eye. He trips Rios to the mat again, working in half guard. Avila goes to work on the ribs with sharp rights, then transitions to mount. Rios rolls him over and lands in his guard. Avila rolls back into mount and the bell sounds. 10-9 Avila.

Round 3
They come out and touch gloves. Rios throws a push kick that Avila backs away from. Avila is looking for the big shot, throwing power punches and head kicks. Avila lands a double leg into Rios' guard. He stands and throws a kick at the local favorite's legs. Rios attacks his legs from his back. Rios stands. Avila eats a straight left, gets a body lock and trips it to the mat again. Avila is working from half guard, then grabs a guillotine and rolls over. Rios escapes. Avila easily transitions back to half guard. They stand and the bell sounds. 10-9 Avila.

Official scores: 30-27's across the board for Avila, winner by unanimous decision.

Damion Douglas vs. Wayne Phillips
Round 1
Douglas quickly clinches with Phillips, prompting the AKA product to go for a headlock throw. Douglas shuts down the throw, and flops to top position, where he sets up in half guard. Phillips smoothly gets full guard back, and looks for an armbar. Douglas shucks his legs by, and in the scramble, takes Phillips' back with lightning speed. Douglas nearly sinks the choke, but Phillips peels his hand and gets back to his feet and escapes from the precarious position. Both men miss hooks as they clinch again and Phillips continues to look for the takedown, but can't get it. Douglas gets a double-leg of his own against the fence, and again gets both of his hooks in to take Phillips' back. Phillips scrambles back to his feet, but eats punches from Douglas on the way up. Douglas lands a hard right, but can't follow up cleanly. A hard Phillips body kick is caught by Douglas, but nothing comes of it. Douglas looks gassed four minutes into the bout. Douglas walks into an overhand from Phillips, and the AKA fighter finally gets a trip takedown into side control. Douglas looks for a kimura from the bottom, but gives up his back. Phillips leaps on, and immediately sinks the rear-naked choke. Douglas falls back, and grits his teeth until the round expires. The bell is the only thing that saved Douglas.

Round 2
Phillips quickly gets in on a takedown, and Douglas locks up a guillotine. He locks up the guard and extends his hips, squeezing hard, but Phillips pops his head out and quickly moves to half guard. Phillips chips away with short punches on top, as the crowd grows restless. Douglas looks for another kimura from the bottom, while Phillips bides his time. After Phillips finally pops his arm out and lays in Douglas' guard, referee Josh Rosenthal stand them up. Phillips immediately lands a left hook, and a series of knees. Both men are fatigued, but Phillips is the fresher of the two. Douglas wings a pair of hooks that glance Phillips, but gets hit with two more stern knees to the body. Douglas lands a knee and a pair of punches to the body, and gets hit with another knee.

Two left crosses from Phillips snap Douglas' head back. A short right hook from Phillips pops the exhausted Douglas' mouthguard out at the horn.

Round 3
The arm-weary pair glance with punches in the first 90 seconds, but can't land flush. Douglas tries to rush Phillips with the three-punch combo, but the Cesar Gracie pupil catches a short left hook to the face. A Phillips head kick is blocked. Phillips continues to walk Douglas down, but isn't throwing with conviction. A Douglas one-two hits the crown of Phillips' head. Douglas digs to the body with a pair of hooks as Phillips lazily walks toward him. Phillips reaches for the clinch, but Douglas pushes him away. A left overhand catches Phillips on the way in. Douglas is now surprisingly effective, counterpunching Phillips successfully. A Douglas right makes Phillips wince. A left hook-right cross for Douglas lands clean for Douglas, who begins to dance around. Phillips cracks Douglas with a right hook as he dances, but the horn sounds before he can follow up.

Official scores: Judge Steve English scores the fight 29-28 for Wayne Phillips. However, judges Susan Thomas-Gitlin and Steve Morrow have it 30-27 and 29-28 respectively for the winner by split decision, Damion Douglas.

James Terry vs. Josh Thornburg
Round 1
Terry lands an overhand right to start proceedings. Both fighters actively punching and kicking, but mostly hitting air. Terry thuds a kick into the outside of Thornburg's lead leg. Terry glances with a pair of one-twos, but lands more solidly with two hard low kicks that follow. The Cung Le student finally rips off a two-punch combo that lands, and follows with a head kick, and an extra pair of punches. Thornburg's left eye is swelling, as Terry lands a right cross-left hook combo. Another nasty leg kick for Terry digs into Thornburg's lead leg. Right hook, left hook, leg kick for Terry. Thornburg tries to jab him off, and Terry absolutely ruins Thornburg with an overhand right. Thornburg collapses onto his back in slow motion, and this fight is a wrap. Referee Jason McCoy immediately dives in to rescue Thornburg at 4:38 of the first round.

Lorenz Larkin vs. Scott Lighty
Round 1
Both fighters swipe at air with their early strikes, punctuated by a jumping roundhouse from Larkin. Larkin smacks Lighty with a hard low kick. Lighty throws a low kick, and Larkin knocks him to the mat on the counter. Lighty gets up, and gets ripped with a jumping kick to the body from Larkin. Lighty lands a low kick, and Larkin turns southpaw. Larkin stumbles, as he meets a Lighty jab while stepping in to kick. The pair trade low kicks. Another Lighty head kick is blocked. A harsh push kick from Larkin sends Lighty into the fence. Larkin swarms with punches, and as Lighty retreats, he gets whacked with a right uppercut and a left hook from Larkin that put him on the canvas. Lighty turtles up, but works back to his feet under heavy fire from his foe. Lighty regains his bearings, but his kicks over the last 20 seconds are blocked.

Round 2
Larkin continues to stalk Lighty, who shoots for a single-leg. Larkin shucks him off, and smashes him with a left. Larkin jumps in with another salvo of punches that put Lighty on the canvas. Larkin continues to punch and elbow on the desperate Lighty, who slowly fights back to his feet, but is being creamed in the standup. Lighty lands a left to the body, and Larkin responds with a chopping elbow that just whizzes by Lighty's head. Two kicks land for Larkin, but the unbeaten fighter is starting to fatigue. Lighty steps in, and Larkin cracks him with a counter left that leaves Lighty uneasy on his feet. It takes Larkin a moment to identify it, but when he smells blood, he attacks.

A lunging left uppercut drops Lighty against the fence once again, and Larkin dives in with more punches. Referee Dan Stell has seen enough, and steps in to save Lighty at 3:15 of the second round. Sensational Strikeforce debut for Lorenz Larkin.

David Douglas vs. Caros Fodor
Round 1
Fodor bulls Douglas into the fence, looking for a takedown from the clinch. The pair trade knees to the body, as Douglas turns Fodor and puts his back into the fence. Fodor looks for a foot sweep, and Douglas blocks it and gets a takedown of his own. Douglas lands a series of rights, and Fodor tries to get to his feet, but exposes his back. Douglas goes over the top for an armbar, but Fodor controls his foe's leg and yanks his arm out. They quickly clinch on the feet again, and trade hooks to the body inside. Douglas with a hard knee, and Fodor responds with one of his own. Douglas drives for a takedown, and gets it, as Fodor tries to go for a guillotine and slips. The Washingtonian gets off his back, and puts Douglas on his back. Fodor immediately postures up and lands a bevy of hard left elbows. Douglas kicks Fodor away, but "Tarzan" gets cracked with a diving right from Fodor. Fodor passes to side control, and locks up a kimura. Douglas shrewdly grabs his own shorts to thwart the submission. Fodor gives up, and pounds Douglas some more before the bell.

Round 2
Douglas quickly shoots, and gets stuck in a front headlock from Fodor. Fodor squats down, looking for a guillotine from top position, but lets it go and sets up in the guard of "Tarzan." Fodor smacks Douglas with a right, and nearly gets his back as the Cesar Gracie product scrambles to his feet. Fodor pushes Douglas into the fence again, and lands two hard knees to the body. Douglas puts his head down and ends up in a tight Fodor guillotine. Fodor uses the choke to sweep to full mount on "Tarzan" as Douglas tries to escape. From a high mount, Fodor cracks Douglas with a series of elbows. Douglas is exhausted on the bottom, as Fodor punches away, and forces Douglas to expose his back. However, Fodor can't capitalize on the position.

Fodor ends up in side control, but Douglas quickly reclaims half guard. The AMC Pankration product cracks Douglas with more elbows before the horn.

Round 3
Fodor lands a jab and a stiff right cross on Douglas, who tiredly jabs while going backwards. Douglas backs himself onto the fence, and Fodor unloads with knees on him. Douglas is trying for wrist control while Fodor drills him with high knees repeatedly. "The Future" lands short uppercuts on his totally spent foe. Douglas is literally just hanging onto his opponent's wrist. Fodor drills his kneecap into the helpless Douglas' head again and again, and referee Jason McCoy is forced to intervene. Douglas didn't hit the mat, but had nothing left to offer. The finish comes at 2:12 of the third round.

Justin Wilcox vs. Rodrigo Damm
Round 1
The bout starts with an awkward, extended staredown as the fighters are forced to wait for the paramedic to arrive at cageside from the backstage area. After what seems like an eternity, the bout begins, and Wilcox looks for money early with a head kick. It's blocked, and Damm responds with a low kick. Wilcox is undeterred: he throws another head kick that dazes the Brazilian, and forces him to shoot. Wilcox sprawls, pushes away, and resets. Wilcox is walking down his foe quickly, and lands another right head kick. Damm lands a low kick and Wilcox responds with yet another head kick, which is blocked. Wilcox crushes Damm with a right cross, and dives on top of his foe, pounding away. Damm regains his senses, and crawls for a takedown, but Wilcox stands up, and continues to pummel him. Damm hits the mat on his knees, and Wilcox is standing above him, smacking him with punches. Damm's face is a bloody mess, and he's being completely obliterated. Wilcox drills the turtled Damm with a knee to the body, and follows with a heavy right. Wilcox steps away, and he's standing above the bloodied Damm. Wilcox rears back and cracks him again, and dives into his guard. Damm tries to hammerfist from the bottom, and manages to halt the absolute beating long enough to hear the bell.

Following the end of the round, Damm, who is cut under both eyes, as well as above his left eye, is halted by the ringside physician. Justin Wilcox is the winner by doctor's stoppage after the first round.
