This Month’s MMA Birthdays: Georges St. Pierre Turns 34

He remains the standard by which all other welterweights are measured and judged. Georges St. Pierre will celebrate his 34th birthday on May 19.

St. Pierre’s resume speaks for itself. The Tristar Gym export holds wins over most of his contemporaries, from Nick Diaz, Carlos Condit, Jake Shields and Thiago Alves to B.J. Penn (twice), Josh Koscheck (twice) and Jon Fitch; and he has avenged the only two losses of his career, defeating Matt Hughes, at UFC 65 and UFC 79, and Matt Serra, at UFC 83. “Rush” last fought at UFC 167 in November 2013, when he took a contentious split decision from Johny Hendricks at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. St. Pierre vacated the welterweight title a month later and announced he was taking an indefinite leave of absence. If he returns, he will do so to the tune of a 12-fight winning streak.

A protégé of Firas Zahabi, St. Pierre is the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s all-time leader in wins (19) and is tied for 11th in career appearances (21). No fighter in history has spent more time competing inside the Octagon than St. Pierre’s five hours, 28 minutes and 12 seconds.
