Not yet six months into its existence, the Ultimate Fighting Championship was still in its infancy when Morris squared off with Daugherty in first round of a 16-man tournament at Mammoth Gardens. The two Octagon newcomers exchanged punches and kicks before Morris pressed his counterpart into the fence. He then clamped down on a guillotine choke, rolled into mount and forced the tapout from Daugherty 20 seconds into Round 1. Morris went on to face Patrick Smith in the quarterfinals, where he was victimized by a volley of elbows in what remains one of the most brutal beatdowns in UFC history. He never competed inside the Octagon again.
