Preview: UFC 297 Prelims

Jasudavicius vs. Cachoeira

Women’s Flyweights

Jasmine Jasudavicius (9-3, 3-2 UFC) vs. Priscila Cachoeira (12-5, 4-5 UFC)

ODDS: Jasudavicius (-395), Cachoeira (+310)

Jasudavicius keeps chugging along, and it will be interesting to see if the Canadian can break through what seems like her latest ceiling. Jasudavicius came to the UFC as a solid but unspectacular prospect via Dana White’s Contender Series in 2021. She was large for the division and a dogged pressure fighter, but she did not show much in terms of athleticism and finishing ability. Add in that she is a late comer to the sport and a bit older than you would expect for a prospect, and it was easy to see things cutting either way. Jasudavicius could continue to round out her game or simply flame out as someone without a clear strength at the UFC level. Fortunately for her, it has been the former, with Jasudavicius’ relentlessness allowing her to gut out some fights that she should have lost on paper. However, her two UFC losses thus far—to Natalia Silva in 2022 and Tracy Cortez in September—have seen her get outmaneuvered by quicker athletes without much of an answer as to how to make up the gap. Cachoeira seems like a soft rebound fight for Jasudavicius to figure things out. It is a bit of a miracle that Cachoeira is even still on the UFC roster six years after her UFC debut, for various reasons. She was a raw brawler who did not look particularly ready for the UFC upon her signing, and that was made even worse by her getting thrashed by Valentina Shevchenko in a fight that left her with some major injuries. Cachoeira shored up her wrestling and grappling just enough to get by in a brawl against the lower reaches of the UFC roster, though she is still prone to one-sided losses against better competition. Jasudavicius seems durable enough to eat Cachoeira’s offense and should be able to score some takedowns in short order; and while the Canadian has not been much of a finisher, she does have the ability to pour on offense once she is on top of an opponent. That might just get her the stoppage here. The pick is Jasudavicius via second-round stoppage.
