Bohm vs. Leonardo

Women's Flyweights

Mandy Bohm (7-1, 1 NC | 0-1 UFC) vs. Victoria Leonardo (8-4 |0-2 UFC)

Odds: Bohm (-130), Leonardo (+110)

This is a well-matched bout that should help sort some things out for each of these two fighters. Mandy Bohm losing her UFC debut wasn't necessarily a shock, but it was a disappointing performance from the German fighter; "Monster" had some solid physical tools and smart ideas in her fights leading up to that bout against Ariane Lipski, but fought a relatively low level of competition. Lipski brought a level of athleticism and aggression that Bohm had yet to face, and the hope was that Bohm could at least put on a fun scrap while figuring things out - instead, she mostly struggled to pull the trigger without her usual advantages and lost a decision in a flat performance. She'll look to rebound here against Victoria Leonardo, who's been game but physically overmatched in her two UFC bouts thus far. That's always been the proposition for Leonardo - "Fury" earned a contract on the Contender Series through sheer doggedness against the much more hyped Chelsea Hackett - but she's faced some tough tests in the Octagon thus far; Manon Fiorot turned out to be both a physical force and a potential title contender, while Melissa Gatto showed up in much better form than expected upon her UFC debut. To her credit, Leonardo keeps fighting through what's often been a losing battle, and she had some moments against Gatto - up until the point that the fight was stopped due to a broken arm that Leonardo was still trying to fight through. This really could go either way, a lot of which is dependent on how Bohm fares over the long haul; her wins have depended on her being able to leverage her physical gifts into getting her opponent's respect, and while she'll still clearly have a size and reach advantage, Leonardo doesn't seem like the type to be backed off into inactivity. The bet is that Leonardo's aggression is enough to make Bohm hesitant, particularly with how passive the German looked against Lipski, though there's the risk that she'll be charging right into some powerful Bohm offense; the pick is Leonardo by ugly decision.
