By The Numbers: Jake Collier vs. Chase Sherman

A last-minute reshuffling of the deck has thrust Jake Collier and Chase Sherman into the UFC on ESPN 32 co-main event this Saturday at the UFC Apex, as the Ultimate Fighting Championship kicks off its 2022 campaign in Las Vegas. The heavyweight hopefuls have 22 first-round finishes between them.

Collier enters the Octagon having alternated wins and losses in each of his past nine outings. The former Resurrection Fighting Alliance titleholder last appeared on June 12, when he wound up on the wrong side of a split decision against Carlos Felipe at UFC 263. Sherman, meanwhile, finds himself reeling after back-to-back defeats. He last fought at UFC on ESPN 29, where he dropped a unanimous verdict to Parker Porter on Aug. 21.

As Collier and Porter approach their showdown in Sin City, a look at some of the numbers that have accompanied them to this point:

33: Years of age for Collier, who was born on Oct. 23, 1988 in St. Louis.

3: Collier victories by submission, accounting for 25% of his career total (12). His methods of choice: two rear-naked chokes and one guillotine choke. Collier owns five other victories by knockout or technical knockout and four more by decision.

22: Rounds completed by Collier as a professional mixed martial artist. He has gone the distance six times and carries a 4-2 record in those bouts.

2: UFC appearances in which Collier has landed 100 significant strikes or more. He connected on a personal-best 130 of them in his loss to Felipe and 123 of them in a unanimous decision over Gian Villante at UFC on ESPN 19 in December 2020.

.732: Cumulative winning percentage between the six men—Felipe, Tom Aspinall, Devin Clark, Dongi Yang, Vitor Miranda and Kelvin Tiller—who have defeated Collier. They boast a combined record of 71-26.

32: Years of age for Sherman, who was born in D’Iberville, Mississippi, on Nov. 6, 1989.

14: Sherman wins by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 93% of his career total (15). His list of victims includes Isaac Villanueva, Jeremy May, Jack May and Rashad Coulter. Sherman holds one other win by decision, as he outpointed former M-1 Global champion Damian Grabowski at UFC on Fox 25 in July 2017.

6: Organizations in which Sherman has plied his MMA trade. He has gone 3-7 in the UFC, 6-1 in Square Ring Promotions, 3-0 in Fight Force International, 1-0 in V3 Fights, 1-0 in Atlas Fights and 1-0 in Titan Fighting Championship.

11: Seconds needed for Sherman to dispatch Chris Jensen with punches under the Atlas Fights flag on April 12, 2014. Having occurred in his second professional assignment, it remains the fastest finish of his 23-fight career.
