By The Numbers: Tim Elliott vs. Matheus Nicolau

Upper-crust flyweights will collide at the behest of Ultimate Fighting Championship matchmakers when Tim Elliott faces Matheus Nicolau in a three-round UFC Fight Night 194 showcase on Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Both men enter the cage ranked inside the Top 15 at 125 pounds.

Elliott finds himself on a two-fight winning streak. The former Titan Fighting Championship titleholder last fought at UFC 259, where he laid claim to a unanimous decision over Jordan Espinosa on March 6. Nicolau, meanwhile, has rattled off three straight victories. The Nova Uniao rep last competed on March 13, when he eked out a split decision over Manel Kape at UFC Fight Night 187.

As Elliott and Nicolau make their final preparations, a look at some of the numbers that have accompanied them to this point:

34: Years of age for Elliott, who was born in Wichita, Kansas, on Dec. 24, 1986.

3: Elliott victories by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 18% of his career total (17). His list of victims: Jens Pulver, John McDowell and Victor Veloquio. Elliott holds six other wins by submission and eight more by decision.

14: Appearances by Elliott as a UFC flyweight, tying him with Dustin Ortiz and John Moraga for fourth on the promotion’s all-time list at 125 pounds. Only Joseph Benavidez (19), Jussier Formiga (16) and Demetrious Johnson (15) have more.

116: Significant strikes landed by Elliott in a three-round unanimous decision over Louis Gaudinot at UFC 164 on Aug. 31, 2013. It remains the Glory MMA export’s high-water mark inside the Octagon.

.732: Cumulative winning percentage between the 11 men who have defeated Elliott: Benavidez, Johnson, Brandon Royval, Askar Askarov, Deiveson Figueiredo, Ben Nguyen, Zach Makovsky, Ali Bagautinov, John Dodson, Jacky Brandon Bryant and Shane Howell. They boast a combined record of 199-70-3.

28: Years of age for Nicolau, who was born on Jan. 6, 1993 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

5: Nicolau wins by submission, accounting for 31% of his career total (16). His methods of choice: two Japanese neckties, one triangle choke, one arm-triangle choke and one rear-naked choke. Nicolau owns four other wins by knockout or technical knockout and seven more by decision.

78: Seconds needed for Nicolau to submit Alan Gabriel dos Santos with a Japanese necktie at a Future Fighting Championships event on May 24, 2019. It ranks as the fastest finish of his 19-fight career.

1: Stalemate on the Nicolau resume. He fought to a three-round draw with Larry Passos Vargas at Brasil Fight 5 in September 2011. Nicolau struck down Vargas with punches in the third round of their rematch a little more than a year later.

4: Countries in which Nicolau has competed as a mixed martial artist. He has gone 11-1-1 in his native Brazil, 3-0 in the United States, 2-0 in Switzerland and 0-1 in Canada.
