Israel Adesanya still reigns supreme in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s middleweight division.

It took “The Last Stylebender” quite a bit longer than it did the first time around, but he nonetheless moved to 2-0 against Robert Whittaker following a unanimous decision triumph in the UFC 271 headliner at Toyota Center in Houston Saturday night. Adesanya remained undefeated at 185 pounds, while Whittaker saw a three-bout winning streak snapped in defeat.

11: Consecutive middleweight victories for Adesanya, the second-longest streak in the history of the division behind pound-for-pound great Anderson Silva (13). Saturday’s win was the fourth successful title defense for the City Kickboxing member.

4: Takedowns landed in 10 attempts for Whittaker. That’s tied the most takedowns surrendered by Adesanya during his UFC tenure. He was also taken down four times by Marvin Vettori in his previous title defense at UFC 263.

3:40: Total control time for Whittaker in the 25-minute bout. Despite his four takedowns, Whittaker was unable to keep Adesanya grounded for any significant period of time.

79: Significant strikes landed by Adesanya. By comparison, Whittaker landed 59. The Nigerian-born Kiwi outlanded his opponent 18 to 9 in Round 1, 16 to 12 in Round 2, 17 to 12 in Round 3 and 13 to 10 in Round 5. Whittaker held a 16-to-15 edge in significant strikes in Round 4.

29: Significant leg strikes for Adesanya. Whittaker, meanwhile, landed 13.

5: Consecutive victories for Tai Tuivasa, the second-longest active winning streak in the UFC’s heavyweight division behind reigning champion Francis Ngannou (six). Tuivasa defeated Derrick Lewis via second-round knockout in Saturday’s co-main event.

24: Fighters in UFC history to have a streak of five or more consecutive finishes in the Octagon after Tuivasa joined the group with his stoppage of Lewis. “Bam Bam” has also put away Augusto Sakai, Greg Hardy, Harry Hunsucker and Stefan Struve during his current run.

2: Takedowns landed four attempts for Lewis. It’s the first time “The Black Beast” has landed two takedowns in his UFC career.



16: Significant clinch strikes — out of 24 total — landed by Tuivasa. Close quarters offense was a key to the Australian’s knockout victory, as he ultimately floored Lewis with a short, standing elbow.

5: Rear-naked choke submission victories for Renato Carneiro in UFC competition, tied for the third most in promotion history behind only Demian Maia (nine) and Kenny Florian (seven). “Moicano” used the maneuver to dispatch Alexander Hernandez 1:23 into the second round of their lightweight encounter.

188: Significant strikes landed by Bobby Green, the most of his 18-bout UFC tenure. Green defeated Nasrat Haqparast via unanimous decision, outlanding his foe 38 to 17 in Round 1, 71 to 38 in Round 2 and 79 to 21 in Round 3.

37: UFC bouts for Andrei Arlovski, tied for second most in promotion history behind only Jim Miller (38). Arlovski took a split decision over Jared Vanderaa in a preliminary heavyweight contest.

5-1: Record for Arlovski in his last six Octagon appearances, a run that includes wins over Vanderaa, Carlos Felipe, Chase Sherman, Tanner Boser and Philipe Lins.

229: Significant strikes landed by Casey O’Neill in a split-decision triumph against Roxanne Modafferi, the most in the history of the UFC’s female flyweight division. The previous record was held by Nicco Montano, who coincidentally set the mark against Modafferi in a five-round title bout at “The Ultimate Fighter 26” finale.

109: Significant strikes by which O’Neill outlanded Modafferi, the largest differential for a women’s flyweight fight in the history of the Las Vegas-based promotion.

4: Consecutive victories for O’Neill, tying her with Taila Santos for the second longest active winning streak in the UFC at 125 pounds behind reigning champ Valentina Shevchenko (eight).

8: Triangle armbar submission finishes in UFC history. Kyler Phillips became the eighth athlete to accomplish the feat when he tapped Marcelo Rojo 1:48 into the third round of their bantamweight clash.

13: Significant strikes landed by Fabio Cherant over three rounds in a unanimous decision loss to Carlos Ulberg at light heavyweight. Cherant land just 31 percent of his strikes in losing his third consecutive UFC appearance. By comparison, Ulberg landed 66 significant strikes at a 58 percent success rate as he was able to control the range and tempo of the fight.

5: Combined knockdowns landed by Ronnie Lawrence (three) and Leomana Martinez (two) in their preliminary bantamweight matchup. That’s just the second fight in UFC history to feature two or more knockdowns by both participants. The other: Alex Oliveira (two) vs. Yancy Medeiros (two) at UFC 218.

28: Significant strike advantage for Martinez in a precarious final round for Lawrence, in which he was floored twice and had to defend against an armbar attempt. Martinez also outlanded his foe by 38 total strikes in the round. Lawrence outlanded his foe by a combined 25 significant strikes in Rounds 1 and 2.

183: Total strikes landed by Jacob Malkoun in a unanimous decision triumph over the previously undefeated A.J. Dobson at middleweight. By comparison, Dobson landed 68. Malkoun also landed six of 16 takedowns attempts while logging 9:17 of control time in his victory.

3: Knockdowns landed by Douglas Silva de Andrade in the second-round of his victory over Sergey Morozov in a preliminary bantamweight bout. After Morozov dropped the Brazilian and held a 53-to-28 edge in total strikes in Round 1, Silva de Andrade rallied for a submission win at the 3:24 mark of the second frame.

32: Significant leg strikes — out of 69 total — landed by Maxim Grishin in a three-round verdict over William Knight at heavyweight. Knight, meanwhile, landed 21 significant strikes overall and seven to the legs in defeat.
