By The Numbers: UFC Fight Night 208

For the second consecutive week, an Ultimate Fighting Championship main event ended early due to unfortunate circumstances.

This time, Tom Aspinall was the victim of bad luck, as he suffered what appeared to be a knee injury just 15 seconds into his UFC Fight Night 208 heavyweight showdown with Curtis Blaydes at the O2 Arena in London on Saturday. That ends an eight-fight professional winning streak for Aspinall, who looked like one of the rising contenders in the division. Now, he could be facing a lengthy road to recovery.

128: Total takedowns attempted at UFC Fight Night 208, the most ever for a single event. That was led by a whopping 26 attempts from Muhammad Mokaev, tied for the fourth-most ever in a three-round fight in the promotion.

7-1: Record for Blaydes in UFC bouts since 2019. His lone setback during that time came in a KO loss to Derrick Lewis at UFC Fight Night 185.

7: Combined significant strikes landed by Blaydes (four) and Aspinall (three) in the short-lived headliner.

100: Significant strikes landed by Jack Hermansson in a unanimous decision triumph over short-notice foe Chris Curtis at middleweight. By comparison, Curtis landed 43. Hermansson landed 48 significant strikes to the head, 25 to the body and 27 to the legs in a well-rounded effort. Curtis, meanwhile, landed 18 to the head, 25 to the body and 0 to the legs in defeat.

4: Submisson attempts by Paddy Pimblett against Jordan Leavitt in their lightweight bout. The last of those, a rear-naked choke, forced a tapout from his opponent at the 2:46 mark of Round 2.

22: First-round finishes for Nikita Krylov, who stopped former title challenger Alexander Gustafsson just 67 seconds into their light heavyweight encounter.

2: Knockdowns for Krylov in the abbreviated encounter. Gustaffson had been dropped just once — by Anthony Johnson — in his previous 17 UFC outings.

4: Consecutive losses for Gustafsson, all of which have come inside the distance. In addition to Krylov, the Swede has been stopped by Fabricio Werdum, Anthony Smith and Jon Jones during his skid.

2: Fighters in UFC history with two finishes stemming from a back elbow. Molly McCann joined Ricardo Ramos as the only two athletes with this distinction, as she used the maneuver as part of a finishing sequence against Hannah Goldy in their flyweight clash. “Meatball” previously used a spinning back elbow to stop Luana Carolina at UFC Fight Night 204 on March 19.

72: Significant strikes landed by Volkan Oezedmir in a three-round verdict over submission specialist Paul Craig at light heavyweight. By comparison, Craig landed 33 significant strikes. Oezdemir outlanded his foe 16 to 5 in Round 1, 27 to 16 in Round 2 and 29 to 12 in Round 3.

0: Takedowns landed in 15 attempts by Craig, who used the majority of his shots to attempt to draw Oezdemir into his guard. Craig was not credited with a single submission attempt in the bout as he saw a six-bout unbeaten streak come to an end.

19: Combined takedowns landed by Marc Diakiese in his last two UFC appearances, unanimous decision wins over Damir Hadzovic (eight) and Viacheslav Borschev (11). “Bonecrusher” landed 16 takedowns combined in his first 10 UFC bouts.

30: Combined significant stirkes landed by Diakiese in those same two fights.

.610: Significant striking accuracy for Nathaniel Wood in a clear-cut decision triumph over Charles Rosa at featherweight. Wood landed 97 of 159 attempts in a clinical performance. Rosa, meanwhile, struggle to find the range, as he landed 51 of 167 significant strikes — a 30 percent clip.

31: Significant leg strikes landed by Wood, who repeated knocked Rosa to the canvas with calf kicks in the bout. By comparison, Rosa landed 12 significant leg strikes.

79: Significant strikes by which Jonathan Pearce outlanded Makwan Amirkhani in a second-round technical knockout victory at featherweight. Pearce also held a 144-to-12 advantage in total strikes landed.

37: Significant ground strikes for Pearce. Amirkhani failed to land a significant strike on the mat.

12: Takedowns landed in 26 attempts for Muhammad Mokaev in a unanimous decision victory against Charles Johnson. That checks in as a three-round record for a UFC flyweight fight. Mokaev landed four takedowns in Round 1, three in Round 2 and five in Round 3.
