By The Numbers: UFC on ESPN 37

Josh Emmett passed the first five-round test of his professional career — but only by the skin of his teeth.

Emmett defeated Calvin Kattar via split-decision in the UFC on ESPN 37 headliner at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas, on Saturday night for his fifth consecutive triumph at 145 pounds. While there were plenty of dissenting scorecards in the mixed martial arts community, that won’t matter to Emmett, who inches closer to a title shot with the most significant victory of his professional career to date.

Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC on ESPN 37, with statistics courtesy of UFCStats.com.

5: Consecutive victories for Emmett, tying him with Movsar Evloev for the fourth-longest active winning streak in the UFC’s featherweight division. Only Alexander Volkanovski (nine), Arnold Allen (nine) and Bryce Mitchell (six) have longer streaks.

14: Unofficial media scorecards, of the 19 tracked by MMADecisions.com, that had Kattar winning the fight. Meanwhile, judges Sal D’Amato and Chris Lee submitted 48-47 tallies for Emmett to give the Team Alpha Male fighter the split-decision victory.

130: Significant strikes landed by Kattar. By comparison, Emmett landed 107. Kattar outlanded his foe 14 to 11 in Round 1, 41 to 21 in Round 4 and 34 to 22 in Round 5. Emmett outlanded Kattar 26 to 22 in Round 2 and 27 to 19 in Round 3.

114: Significant head strikes for Kattar. Emmett, meanwhile, landed 73.

26: Significant body strikes landed by Emmett. Kattar landed 15.

2-2: Record for Kattar in bouts that go 25 minutes. “The Boston Finisher” has gone five rounds in each of his last four Octagon appearances, besting Giga Chikadze and Dan Ige while falling to Emmett and Max Holloway.

8: KO/TKO finishes at UFC on ESPN 37, tying it with six other events for the most such finishes in the history of the Las Vegas-based promotion.

1,302: Days since Kevin Holland’s last submission victory, a rear-naked choke of John Phillips at UFC Fight Night 141 on Nov. 24, 2018. “Trailblazer” tapped out Tim Means with a brabo choke 1:28 into Round 2 of their welterweight co-main event.

6: Career knockdowns in UFC competition for Joaquin Buckley. “New Mansa” floored Albert Duraev twice in Round 2 en route to a doctor stoppage victory.

11: Unofficial media scorecards, of the 15 tracked by MMADecisions.com, that saw the lightweight fight between Damir Ismagulov and Guram Kutateladze in favor of Kutateladze. Judges Chris Lee and Jason Stafin saw things differently, which resulted in a split-decision triumph for Ismagulov.

157: Combined significant strikes landed by Ismagulov (79) and Kutateladze (78). Kutateladze outlanded his foe 26 to 21 in Round 1 and 29 to 28 in Round 3, while Ismagulov held a 30-to-23 edge in the second stanza.

63: Significant head strikes landed by Ismagulov. Kutateladze, meanwhile, landed 29.

49: Combined significant strikes to the body (28) and legs (21) for Kutateladze. Ismagulov combined for 16, landing 14 to the body and two to the legs.

5: Consecutive triumphs in UFC competition for Ismagulov, tying him with Rafael Fiziev, Claudio Puelles and Arman Tsarukyan for the fourth-longest active winning streak in the lightweight division.

19: Consecutive professional triumphs for Ismagulov, who hasn’t tasted defeat since dropping a unanimous decision to Ramazan Esenbaev at M-1 Challenge 61 on Sept. 20, 2015.

3: Knockdowns landed by Gregory Rodrigues en route to a knockout victory over Julian Marquez at the 3:18 mark of Round 1 in their middleweight bout. The Brazilian known as “RoboCop” outlanded his opponent by a 49-to-13 count in significant strikes.

5: Consecutive victories for Adrian Yanez, tying him with T.J. Dillashaw and Jack Shore for the third-longest active winning streak in the UFC’s bantamweight division. Only Aljamain Sterling (seven) and Merab Dvalishvili (six) have longer winning streaks at 135 pounds. Yanez vanquished Tony Kelley via technical knockout 3:49 into Round 1 on Saturday.

80: Total strikes by which Octagon newcomer Natalia Cristina da Silva outlanded Jasmine Jasudvicius in their flyweight encounter. Silva also outlanded her foe by 65 significant strikes.

2,254: Days since Court McGee’s last KO/TKO defeat, which came at the hands of Santiago Ponzinibbio in the opening round of their UFC on Fox 19 bout on April 16, 2016. Jeremiah Wells became just the second person to finish “The Ultimate Fighter 11” winner in 32 professional outings with a first-round KO 1:34 into Round 1 of their middleweight clash at UFC on ESPN 37.

5: Spinning elbow knockouts in UFC history. Ricardo Ramos owns two of those finishes after using the manuever to vanquish Danny Chavez 1:12 into the opening round of their featherweight encounter. Ramos previously finished Aiemann Zahabi with a spinning back elbow at UFC 217. The others who have used the strike as a fight finisher are as follows: Dong Hyun Kim, Jiri Prochazka and Molly McCann.

297: Significant strikes attempted by Maria Oliveira in a split-decision triumph over Gloria de Paula at strawweight. Paula threw with much less volume, attempting 190 significant strikes in the three-round affair. However, Paula landed 105 significant strikes to Oliveira’s 96.

24: Significant strikes by which Cody Stamann outlanded Eddie Wineland in an opening-round blitz that resulted in a technical knockout victory 59 seconds into Round 1 of their bantamweight bout. Wineland has lost three straight by knockout or technical knockout.

118: Significant strikes landed by Phil Hawes in a lopsided beatdown of Deron Winn in a preliminary middleweight affair, a career high for “No Hype.” By comparison, Winn landed 32 significant strikes. Hawes ended the contest with a serious of standing elbows 4:25 into Round 2. Hawes’ previous best of 66 significant strikes came in a three-round decision win over Kyle Daukaus.

.670: Significant striking accuracy for Hawes, who landed 118 of 175 attempts. Winn, meanwhile, landed just 32 of 111 significant strikes — a 28 percent success rate.

2: Knockdowns landed by Roman Dolidze in 1:13 of cage time in a technical knockout win over Kyle Daukaus at middleweight. Dolidze had just one knockdown total in his first four UFC appearances combined.
