By the Numbers: Beneil Dariush vs. Frank Camacho

Beneil Dariush is a respected veteran with victories over Jim Miller and Michael Johnson. For his next fight, he will face a hungry Pacific Islander in the form of knockout artist Frank Camacho. The two exciting lightweights will see action on Oct. 26 at UFC Fight Night 162. Gain some insight into their upcoming scuffle through the numbers below.

Octagon appearances

Dariush has quietly been displaying his skills in the Octagon since 2014 and has remained active year after year. He made his promotional debut against Charlie Brenneman, who was then making a return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship after a year and a half spent fighting elsewhere. Dariush tapped him out in the first round with a rear-naked choke.

The Iranian-American would go on to fight three more times that year, three times each in 2015 and 2016 and twice each in 2017 and 2018. His most recent fight, a submission victory over Drew Dober, happened this past March. His current UFC record is 10-4-1.

Unlike Dariush, Camacho started his UFC career with a loss to Jingliang Li on June 17, 2017 at UFC Fight Night 111, and he has gone 2-2 in his last four fights, so a win over a dangerous veteran like Dariush has the potential to elevate his confidence and stature.

Common opponent: Drew Dober

Camacho and Dober engaged in a three-round war to open the main card of UFC on Fox 27. While Camacho was able to score three takedowns, the judges gave the fight to Dober, who led in the striking department with 145 significant strikes landed to Camacho’s 106. As for Dariush, he needed only two rounds to beat Dober. Before pulling off his fight-winning armbar, the Kings MMA representative was leading in significant strikes (37-31) and takedowns (2-0).

Knockout rate

Camacho has a knack for stopping people with his fists. Of his 22 career victories, 17 have come via KO or TKO, making for an impressive 77 percent knockout rate. By contrast, Dariush has a much lower knockout rate of 19 percent. His most notable victim is James Vick, whom he starched in the first round of their UFC 199 encounter.

Submission rate

Submissions are more likely to be on the menu when Dariush is in the cage. The jiu-jitsu black belt currently owns seven victories by tapout, which makes for a 44 percent submission rate. Apart from Dober and Brenneman, he also tapped out Daron Cruickshank and Anthony Rocco Martin in the UFC. Camacho, meanwhile, may only have a nine percent submission rate with two submissions to his credit, but he is still dangerous on the ground.

Career losses

Dariush carries four defeats, all of which have been stoppages. He was knocked out by Alexander Hernandez, Edson Barboza and Ramsey Nijem and was tapped out by Michael Chiesa. Camacho has also been stopped multiple times, seven in total and once in the UFC, having fallen to a head kick from Geoff Neal at UFC 228.
