By the Numbers: UFC Brasilia
To the surprise of no one, the dominance of Cris Cyborg continued against Lina Lansberg.
“Cyborg” overwhelmed Lansberg in the UFC Fight Night headliner in Brasilia, Brazil, on Saturday, winning via technical knockout 2:29 into the second round of their 140-pound catch-weight bout. Lansberg proved to be a game opponent for a while, but Justino, as has usually been the case, was simply too much. 25: Significant strikes by which Renan Barao outlanded Phillipe Nover in the co-main event. The ex-bantamweight champ outlanded his foe 23 to 11 in round one, 25 to 13 in round two and 16 to 15 in round three en route to taking a unanimous verdict.
3: Takedowns landed in three attempts for Barao, his most since landing four takedowns in a fourth-round submission win over Michael McDonald at UFC on Fuel TV 7 in 2013.
8: Knockouts for Roy Nelson in UFC competition, tying him with Junior dos Santos and Matt Mitrione for third place among heavyweights in the promotion. Only Andrei Arlovski (nine) and Cain Velasquez (10) have more. “Big Country” scored a knockout victory over Antonio Silva 4:10 into the second round of their matchup.
1-6-1: Silva’s record in his last eight bouts. All six of those defeats have come by KO/TKO, and Saturday’s defeat was the first in that stretch that didn’t occur in the first round.
7: Consecutive victories for Francisco Trinaldo, the second-longest active streak in the lightweight division behind Tony Ferguson. Khabib Nurmagomedov is No. 3 with six. Trinaldo stopped Paul Felder due to a cut in the third round of their featured 155-pound encounter.
11: Career first-round finishes among 13 professional victories for Godofredo Castro, who put away Mike de la Torre 3:03 into the opening round in their featherweight duel. Four of those triumphs have come inside the Octagon.
4: Consecutive victories for Rani Yahya, tying him with Jimmie Rivera and Cody Garbrandt for the second-longest active streak in the bantamweight division. Champion Dominick Cruz is at the top of the list with five straight triumphs.
7: Takedowns landed in 11 attempts by Yahya, the most of anyone on Saturday’s UFC Fight Night card. The grappling ace landed four of his takedowns in the second stanza, two in the third and one in the first en route to a decision victory over Michinori Tanaka.
102: Total strikes by which Tanaka outlanded Yahya in the bantamweight bout.
8: Guard passes executed by Jussier da Silva in his unanimous decision triumph over Dustin Ortiz at flyweight. “Formiga” also attempted two submissions while spending much of the fight in back control.
119: Total strikes landed by Ortiz. By comparison, da Silva landed just 55.
1: Win among 13 career UFC appearances in bouts going past the opening round for Erick Silva, who submitted Luan Chagas with a rear-naked choke 3:57 into the third stanza on Saturday. Silva’s previous six Octagon triumphs had occurred inside the opening stanza.
55: Significant strikes landed by Silva, a UFC best for “The Tiger.” Silva’s previous career high of 29 significant strikes landed came in a unanimous decision loss to Neil Magny last year.
9: Combined significant strikes landed by Alan Patrick Silva Alves (seven) and Steven Ray (two) in their lightweight clash. Patrick won a unanimous decision on the strength of five takedowns landed.
3: Consecutive victories for Vicente Luque at welterweight following his first round knockout of Hector Urbina. That ties him for the third-longest active winning streak in the division behind Demian Maia (6) and Stephen Thompson (7).
5: Takedowns landed in 19 attempts by Gregor Gillespie against Glaico Franca in their lightweight bout. Gillespie, a four-time NCAA All-American wrestler at Edinboro University, won a unanimous decision in his Octagon debut.
