MMA Gradebook: Rating Every Fight From UFC Fight Night 150

If you’re like us and watch an absurd amount of mixed martial arts each week, you probably wish there were some sort of rating system so you’re not forced to sit through a boring fight waiting for something to happen. In order to help, we rate the fights on major cards for your convenience. Fights are ranked on the scale shown below, based on competitiveness, the skill and technique on display, excitement, and the story and drama of the contest. Court McGee vs. Dhiego Lima

Longtime Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran McGee stepped inside the Octagon for the 15th time to take on former Titan Fighting Championship welterweight champion Lima in a decent fight to start the night. Most of the fight took place on the feet; however, there were some fun grappling exchanges throughout, but nothing significant enough to decide the fight. [2.0]

Jodie Esquibel vs. Angela Hill

This fight was one-sided domination but the loser kept coming forward and landed some good strikes of her own to give us the sense there could be a comeback. They also kept a crazy pace for all three rounds with both women throwing a combined 526 strikes in just 15 minutes of action. [3.0]

Jim Miller vs. Jason Gonzalez

Quick fight and a great finish earns this fight 3 stars. Good action before the finish as well to cap off the early prelims.

Gilbert Burns vs. Mike Davis

Fantastic performances from both men, especially considering Davis was making his UFC debut against a longtime veteran in Burns. Burns was looking to get the fight to the ground early as usual but Davis defended well and the two had some nice exchanges on the feet before the finish.

Carla Esparza vs. Virna Jandiroba

Classic boring Carla Esparza fight. I didn’t know much about Jandiroba coming into this fight but it is clear she is not ready for the UFC. If you're going to skip any fight make it this one. [1.0]

Andrei Arlovski vs. Augusto Sakai

Heavyweight fights are either boring stare-offs or crazy finishes and not much in between. Unsurprisingly with an Arlovski fight, this one was a classic stare-off. It was a close fight that featured a couple of nice exchanges but overall this is one to skip. [1.5]

Ben Saunders vs. Takashi Sato

Not a lot of action in the first round but the crazy finish in the second earns this 3 stars even. The post-knockout flail by the loser was also one of the weirdest I have ever seen. But with the lack of action, it’s probably best to skip to the finish on this one. [3.0]

Roosevelt Roberts vs. Thomas Gifford

Fairly stagnant first round but a couple of submission attempts and nice transitions made things interesting. The second round started off with some good exchanges on the feet but then the fight hit the ground again and neither fighter was able to do much. The third round was much of the same but this was still an enjoyable fight. [2.5]

John Lineker vs. Cory Sandhagen

Probably the closest fight of the night, with the winner just edging out the loser in significant and total strikes landed. The theme of the night has been it high pace and this fight was no different. The two threw a combined 539 strikes in three rounds and never seemed to slow down, even towards the end of the fight. High pace, back-and-forth action, and a fantastic showing of technique from both men earn this fight 3.5 stars.

Ion Cutelaba vs. Glover Teixeira

One of the best fights of the night with one of the best comebacks of the year so far. Great exchanges on the feet and on the ground along with multiple near-finishes earns this 3.5 stars.

Mike Perry vs. Alex Oliveira

Great back and forth action throughout with multiple momentum changes and near-finishes. There was a bit of a lull to open the third round but midway through, both men picked up the pace and ended the fight the way it started. The winner put on the best performance of his career and finally seems to have put it all together and learned to fight a bit less aggressively. [3.5]

Greg Hardy vs. Dmitry Smoliakov

Quick finish that went just as everyone expected. Enough said. [2.0]

Jack Hermansson vs. Ronaldo Souza

Just as it should be, the best fight of the night was the main event. Both competitors showed incredible heart and it was really anybody’s fight until the final bell with lots of momentum shifts throughout the fight. There was also a perfect mix of striking and grappling and both fighters kept a high pace for all five rounds. The winner looked incredibly impressive and should be in talks for the next title fight. [4.0]
