This Month’s MMA Birthdays: Josh Koscheck Turns 42

Josh Koscheck was one of the many success stories spawned by Season 1 of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series in 2005. He will celebrate his 42nd birthday on Nov. 30.

Before he made the transition to mixed martial arts and became one of its most polarizing figures, Koscheck built his reputation on the back of a remarkable amateur wrestling career. He was a four-time NCAA All-American (1999-2002) at Edinboro University in Pennsylvania, where he won a national championship during a junior season that saw him compile a perfect 42-0 record. Koscheck still ranks second on the school’s all-time list in career winning percentage (.883), seventh in career falls (27) and eighth in career victories (128). He moved to MMA in 2004 and joined the Ultimate Fighting Championship roster less than a year later. Koscheck made 25 appearances inside the Octagon, pieced together a 15-10 record and fought for the welterweight crown in December 2010, losing a five-round decision to the incomparable Georges St. Pierre. The Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, native did not age gracefully, as he lost his final six bouts before announcing his retirement on June 28, 2018.
