Top Reasons to Catch KSW 92

Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki garners the lion’s share of attention on the Polish mixed martial arts scene and remains one of the standards by which all other regional European organizations are measured.

The company will stage its fourth event of 2024 on Saturday when KSW 92 descends on Gorzow Arena in Gorzow Wielkopolski, Poland. Fighters in the bantamweight, featherweight, welterweight and middleweight divisions are scheduled to be featured on the nine-bout bill. It has already been a busy first quarter for KSW, with the promotion having crowned two new champions: Rafal Haratyk claimed the vacant light heavyweight throne and Valeriu Mircea struck interim gold at 155 pounds. Winds of change could soon blow once again.

Here are three reasons to catch KSW 92:

1. Uneasy Lies the Head

Reigning bantamweight champion Jakub Wiklacz answers the call to arms for the first time since he and Sebastian Przybysz left their longtime rivalry unresolved with a unanimous draw at KSW 86 in September. The stalemate halted an impressive four-fight winning streak that had seen the 27-year-old titleholder rise to the top of the promotion’s 135-pound weight class. Now, a new threat emerges and does so in the form of the once-beaten Zuriko Jojua. “Zura” steps into the spotlight on the strength of eight consecutive victories, his tear spanning nearly seven full years. However, inactivity shrouds Jojua in some uncertainty. He has not suited up since he laid claim to a unanimous decision over Antun Racic at KSW 76 on Nov. 12, 2022—some 500 days ago.

2. One Rung at a Time

Piotr Kuberski views himself as the No. 1 contender in waiting within the KSW middleweight division. The 35-year-old Ankos MMA rep puts his 10-fight winning streak on the line opposite former champion Michal Materla in the high-stakes co-main event. Kuberski has stopped his past four opponents with punches inside two rounds. He last appeared on Nov. 11, when he disposed of Bartosz Lesko a mere 72 seconds into the second round of their KSW 88 pairing. Materla, meanwhile, has been one of KSW’s cornerstones for well over a decade and held the middleweight title from May 12, 2012 to Nov. 28, 2015. The Berserkers Team export last fought at KSW 89, where he dropped a five-round unanimous decision to incumbent champion Pawel Pawlak on Dec. 16. Materla turns 40 in April.

3. Bidding Farewell

Two accomplished competitors look to go out on their respective shields when Marius Zaromskis meets Maciej Jewtuszko in a three-round welterweight showcase. Both men plan to retire afterward. An ex-Dream champion who holds wins over Hayato Sakurai, Kazushi Sakuraba and Nordine Taleb, Zaromskis enters the cage with a 23-10 record. The 43-year-old Lithuanian karateka has not competed since he succumbed to punches from Andrzej Grzebyk in the first round of their KSW 62 rematch on July 17, 2021. On the other side of the equation, Jewtuszko, 43, has not fought in nearly five years. The former KSW lightweight titleholder has delivered all 12 of his professional victories by knockout, technical knockout or submission.
