UFC Fight Night 169 Weigh-in Results: Figueiredo Misses Weight, Only Benavidez Can Win Belt

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to Norfolk, Virginia, this Saturday for UFC Fight Night 169, and the main event has been rocked by controversy.

The event will possibly see a new flyweight champion be crowned as Joseph Benavidez will battle Deiveson Figueiredo for the vacant strap. Benavidez (28-5) will be looking to win the first championship of his decorated career. "Joe B-Wan Kenobi" has won nine of his last 10 bouts, with victories coming over the likes of Jussier Formiga, Henry Cejudo, and Ali Bagautinov. The Sacramento native has come up short in his two previous UFC title fights against former kingpin Demetrious Johnson. The veteran looked prepared and came in at 124.5 pounds, and is now the only fighter of the two headliners eligible to win the belt in victory.

Figueiredo (17-1) was undefeated until last year when he lost to Formiga by decision. Since then, the talented Brazilian has outworked Alexandre Pantoja and submitted Tim Elliott. “Daico” will look to notch the biggest win of his career against Benavidez, but his dreams of capturing his first belt have been dashed. He unprofessionally came in overweight at 127.5 pounds, opted not to keep cutting, and is now ineligible to win the title in addition to receiving a 30 percent fine.

UFC Fight Night 169 will air in its entirety on ESPN+. The prelims begin at 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT, while the main card kicks off at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
