CFFC Crowns a New Featherweight Champion When Scott Heckman Battles Jeff Lentz at the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa on February 8, 2014!

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Atlantic City, NJ –Cage Fury Fighting Championships (CFFC) will crown a new a featherweight champion when Scott Heckman takes on Jeff Lentz for the vacant CFFC strap when CFFC returns to the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City, New Jersey on Saturday, February 8, 2014. "The Borgata is in for a treat as two of the top featherweights in the East go after the CFFC belt,” stated CFFC President Rob Haydak.

Former CFFC featherweight champion Artur Rofi (6-1) vacated the title leaving CFFC to find a new champion. A four man tournament was established as Scott Heckman (16-4), Brian Kelleher (9-6), Jeff Lentz (9-3-1) and Gemiyale Adkins (8-6) were all selected to be considered the best featherweight on the east coast. Heckman took care of business by defeating Kelleher by a close decision in September of 2013, earning his spot in the finals. Unfortunately, Adkins missed weight by such an amount that the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board would not approve his bout against Lentz thus giving him a bye to the finals. "This tournament fell apart because Lentz's opponent didn't make weight in October,” said Haydak. “However, Jeff did everything that was asked of him and there were zero reasons why he didn't deserve this title shot. Since signing with CFFC, he has been a true professional and focused on getting his title shot. And that's just what he's getting."

When Lentz steps into the cage on February 8th, it will almost be two years until he has been in a mixed-martial-arts (MMA) bout. However, he is eager to for this opportunity and believes that he has already paid his dues. “I'm super excited to fight for the CFFC title,” said Lentz. “I'm ready to prove I'm one of the best on the east coast and I'm here to make a statement. Scott Heckman is a tough competitor and I give him much respect for what he has accomplished, but he is not as well rounded as I am in the sport of MMA. He may be a better wrestler but bottom line this is a fight. I'm predicting a grueling battle ending with my hand raised. I'm doing the same thing I'm always doing in the gym; working hard and improving my game as much as possible to make me a better me, I'm working on everything. Jason Sargus is improving my wrestling tremendously, while Dan Fischer is helping me become more of a savage in my grappling techniques. Robert Navone and Jose Tabora are keeping my stand up strong and precise, and Rich Komar is keeping me slick and tricky on the ground. I can't wait to show case my skills and see how much I've developed as a fighter since my last fight.”

During that near two year layoff for Lentz, Heckman was busy going 7-1 during that time span leaving no doubt that he was also the number one contender. A man of few words, Heckman is also ready for this test. “To be able to fight for CFFC is an incredible experience, but to be the main event for them is an honor,” stated Heckman. “I think my opponent is a talented fighter, but my prediction for this fight is for me to break his will before I end the fight.”

With over 30 fights between them, this is the first five-round fight they will be in. The fourth and fifth rounds could be the deciding factor in this fight. "I see this fight coming down to heart and cardio,” said Haydak. “Both have comparable skill sets that should have this one going the distance."

In the co-main event, undefeated prospect Jonavin Webb (4-0) takes on Whitney Francois (2-2) in a welterweight showdown with title implications as the current champion, George “the Silencer” Sullivan was recently signed to the UFC. Webb and Francois do have history as they have fought in the amateur leagues with Webb winning by controversial disqualification. The card also features local favorites and established veterans.
