FROM THE MAT TO THE CAGE: PENA EAGER FOR A SHOT AT THE FEATHERWEIGHT TITLE

(PRESS RELEASE) -- On January 24, Luis Pena will take on his toughest opponent to date, Will Calhoun, for V3Fights’ Featherweight Title. Pena is currently 4-0 and trains at Westside MMA in Little Rock, AR. He currently owns two victories inside of the V3 cage as well as a “Fight of the Night” award.

He got started in MMA when one day his biggest high school rivals dragged him to the gym. He hasn’t left since.

However, MMA isn’t his first introduction to combat sports. Growing up, Pena was always too small to be anything in football, and in 2006, the state of Arkansas picked up high school wrestling and he fell in love with the sport. In fact, in his first year, he made it to the state finals. After that, he took it a step further and wrestled for two years at Arkansas Baptist College. He now volunteers to help coach at his old high school to give back to the sport and to stay crisp because he uses his wrestling to his advantage whenever he steps into the cage.

On January 24, Pena will face a very dangerous striker in Will Calhoun for V3’s vacant featherweight title. When asked about this opportunity and his opponent, here is what Pena had to say.

“I think Will Calhoun is my toughest opponent to date. He’s got good hands and defenses. I haven’t seen too much of his ground game and that is my strong suit, so I’m looking to take this fight to the ground. I think this is a great opportunity. I am not going to let it slip by.”
